Lovely book for a lovely time of year. I read this one at Family Storytime. It's fun to use different voices for the trees, the wind, the animals, etc.

I read this book for Family Storytime during banned books week. Since it's longer than most of the books we read in storytime I wasn't sure it would hold the kids' attention, but it did! Great paired with the book Swim, Duck, Swim by Susan Lurie. Both are great books about underdogs (or, underducks in this case) facing their battles with bravery and aplomb!I read this book for Family Storytime during banned books week. This is one of my favorite adaptations of the classic Three Bears story. I use the big book during Toddler Storytime and ask the kiddos to help me act out the story. It's a big hit.

I broke down in tears at the end of this book. Not too many writing manuals you can say that about. Anne Lamott is my best friend (even if she's unaware of it) and I truly believe if everyone would read her stuff we could achieve world peace. Here's my favorite quote from the book: “You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should have behaved better.”I broke down in tears at the end of this book. Not too many writing manuals you can say that about. One of my favorite read-alouds for a Thanksgiving storytime. The rhymes are not forced, and the story is funny. I especially like the message that spending time together with family is more important than turkey on Thanksgiving. Kids can relate to the protagonist's blunder. Caregivers can learn from the quick-to-forgive qualities of the grandparents. A book that's both funny and a warm fuzzy makes a great combo for Thanksgiving. One of my favorite read-alouds for a Thanksgiving storytime. The rhymes are not forced, and the story is funny. Slow and steady wins the race, right? This is a great book to help kids who experience anxiety over timed math tests understand that they are not alone, and, in fact, they just might be kinda special. As the mom of a gifted kid who freaks out when the teacher whips out the timer, I recommend this book for kids and caregivers to read together to foster discussion about math anxiety. I like this quote from the back of the book: "Surprisingly, many of history's greatest mathematicians have been slow calculators. Kudos to Barb Esham for this wise and witty reminder of the difference between rote memorization and higher math reasoning. A perfect book for the child whose passion for exploring the magical world of mathematics is in danger of floundering upon the shoals of the 'mad math minute.'" - Drs. I love this illustrator, who also contributed to another fave, I Ain't Gonna Paint No More. The rhythm makes it a first-rate read-aloud for family storytime. Get ready to wow the crowd with howls of delight. Pairs well with the song, "My Dog Rags."

English language idioms are difficult to explain to kids and non-English speakers, but this engaging book makes it fun. I used some of the pictures for a scavenger hunt/idioms activity, and it worked great.

I read this book as a teen thirty years ago, and I still often think about it. In the 1950's, a white southern man takes medication to darken his skin and goes undercover as a black man in the Deep South. This book is his chronicle of that journey. Everyone unfairly compares this book to The Fault In Our Stars, which is a good book but formulaic and unbelievable in parts (I'm looking at you, Van Houten), but not nearly as good as Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which felt less like reading a book and more like entering inside the mind of the funny, awkward, self-critical, charming, completely believable main character, Greg.
This book is funny. Cancer is not funny. Young girls dying of cancer is especially not funny. Life is too short and too many people suffer unfairly and there's nothing that those of us who survive can do about it except be real and open and honest about it. And, if you're a funny guy, that includes getting us to laugh. This book is about what happens when a funny guy who has never experienced death up-close faces it fully. That sounds like a major downer, a major suck-fest. But it's not. The only thing that sucks about this book is the way that Greg sucks us in from page one. Highly recommended for teens and adults.Everyone unfairly compares this book to The Fault In Our Stars, which is a good book but formulaic and unbelievable in parts (I'm looking at you, Van Houten), but not nearly as good as Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which felt less like reading a…

A boisterous child who keeps getting mistaken for a boy declares to the world, "I'm a girl!" A colorful celebration of living life by your own terms, for the preschool set. My only complaint is that it has the stereotypical bun-and-glasses-wearing librarian who says, "shh!" Come on! I love how the book celebrates non-stereotypical gender roles.
