I greatly enjoyed reading Kelly's letters to herself, her family, and various experiences she's had in life. I have always identified quite a lot with Kelly, ever since I watched The Osbournes on MTV. While I did not have a childhood like hers and did not struggle with addiction, I did relate to her journey in trying to find herself. There were a lot of thing she had to say in this book that resonated with me and a lot I found myself thinking I had said and/or felt before. I learned some things I did not know about Kelly and her family. But mostly I feel inspired in so many different ways, and I think Kelly would like to hear her book had that effect. I am glad she made it through a lot of struggles and came out stronger rather than being a tragic story, because she has a lot to offer (and always has had a lot to offer me while I watched her as I was growing up).I greatly enjoyed reading Kelly's letters to herself, her family, and various experiences she's had in life. This truly is an amazing story of a woman struggling to find her place in the world after high school ends. She discovers college is not a good place for her, gets a part time job, but continues to struggle with feeling out of place. She does not shy away from her battle with depression along with other mental illnesses - she fights through eating disorders, trichotillomania (obsessively pulling out hair), and severe anxiety. She struggles for about 10 years, before really fighting and succeeding to get various parts of her life in order in the way she would like, rather than the way her parents would like, which is from where a lot of her struggles stemmed. She then gains popularity in her community by documenting her experience with a lesbian escort service - which is slightly comical in how awkward it becomes and how much of a disaster she deems it to be.This truly is an amazing story of a woman struggling to find her place in the world after high school ends. This book gave me so many feels. I ended up finishing it in less than 24 hours - I just couldn't put it down. What a beautiful story of Alan Cumming confronting his past and his family history at practically the same time and ultimately deciding to accept what was, be happy with the truth, and moving forward to live a happy life knowing that all his experiences made him the person he is - a person he is proud to be.This book gave me so many feels. This isn't the book you might think it is. Amy Schumer, known as a comedian, instead tells a lot of tragic stories about things that happened during her life. However, she uses those stories to explain how she became empowered over the years, and offers love, support, and advice for anyone in similar situations. I read this book alongside the audiobook and was pretty disappointed with the audio. Amy read her stories pretty monotone and some of the editing really sucked (some sentences just had the ends skipped, one chapter lost an entire paragraph at the end, and in one of her journal entry chapters a footnote was repeated and the correct footnote just skipped). But, for anyone wanting an inside look to Amy's life and experiences, she really does bare all and let's her fans into her personal life. This isn't the book you might think it is. Seriously funny! I want Mindy to be my best friend! It's so wonderful to read about someone who thinks a lot like I do and has so many similar interests - her rules for karaoke etiquette were so spot on! It's great to see that while she's a part of Hollywood, she has not let it go to her head, she's just the same quirky girl she's always been. I also love that she went to college and graduated, before going on her path to "famous."Seriously funny! I want Mindy to be my best friend! I LOVE Russell Brand.. However, this book was kind of difficult to read. While it is good insight into Russell's journey and how he came to be in the celebrity world, his writing style is difficult to follow. He jumps all over the place - there is no linear timeline to follow throughout the book. As a known comedian, Russell does work to make jokes throughout his book in his typical style, but most the joke run flat. I wish there was a audio book version, read by him, so I could *hear* the jokes, because so many were missed by just reading them off the page with out his vocal inflections to make things funny.I LOVE Russell Brand.. Most of this book is extremely funny! Felicia gives some wonderful insight into her childhood and just how she become such a fantastic nerd. It is very easy to just hear her voice in your head and her speed-talking as she tells all of her stories. =)
However, the last couple chapters were a little difficult to get through. It became less of a memoir and more of a "let me teach you some life lessons." While it was interesting to hear a little bit about #GamerGate, since I hadn't really heard of it, but I suppose I did experience a bit of it personally (as a casual female gamer, I do get some hate, because gaming just is not a passion of mine so I don't care to know every game and every tiny detail of the games I do play). Though, the way Felicia describes it was a little confusing and hard to follow. Except the stories of celebrities being attacked, as well as having their personal information released online for people to misuse, were just awful! (How could people behave like that?!) While I understand that she included these chapters, because they were things that happened to her and affected her work and how she behaved with fans and fellow gamers she'd run into on the street, they still just felt too "life lesson-y" and patronizing. Most of this book is extremely funny!
