Love, Hate & Other Filters, a book by Samira Ahmed, is about American-born seventeen-year-old Maya Aziz and how she’s torn between her worlds. There’s one world where her parents expect her to be their good, proper Indian daughter: going to college and getting married to a Muslim boy her mom finds “suitable.” Her other world is about dreams: going to film school and living in New York City. When a horrific event happens, Maya must learn how to deal with the world and its hatred. I enjoyed reading this book. It was a nice, light read and had big, impactful plotlines. I didn’t see anything in the novel I would’ve changed. I would recommend this book with a rating of 5/5. @CreativityReader of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library.
