As in his 1979 "The Switch" novel, the story was about the kidnapping of the wife of a Detroit business owner by a trio of lowlifes; similar premise but more sleazy and violent characters. And like "The Switch" which was adapted to the big screen titled "Life of Crime 2013", "52 Pickup" was adapted to a movie of the same name and rated #9 (see "Summary") from best to worst Elmore-Leonard movie adaptations in 1986 that starred Roy Scheider as the business owner, Ann Margret as his wife and John Glover as the leader of a blackmailing trio. Elmore was not just insanely good in coming up with his endless crime stories, his book titles seem enigmatic but knee slapping fitting at the end of the book.
