Smithsonian's Rocks and Minerals is pretty handy. It is nicely organized. There are useful tables on how to identify a rock or mineral sample. There are also a selection of sample images which can be helpful where mineral impurities produce visually different samples, for instance there are photographs of 4 different types of hematite, and 5 different types of fluorite. It serves as a solid reference volume.
