***SPOILERS*** Lord of Chaos is the sixth book in Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, and from beginning to end, it is filled with action. Jordan keeps readers on their toes throughout the story with intriguing plot twists and revelations that will change the path of the story forever. We start from where we left off with Rand ruling both Caemlyn and Cairhien as the Dragon Reborn. There’s a visitor who wants to see him, and it is none other than the fabled false Dragon Mazrim Taim, who has an ominous gift for Rand. Meanwhile, Egwene is continuing to train with the Wise Ones in dreamwalking, and in her practice, she discovers a secret and gets an offer that will alter her life. Elayne, Nynaeve, and Siuan stay in Salidar, continuing studies of their own while trying to control a figure dangerous beyond their wildest dreams. This is the longest book yet in the series, and because of this, Lord of Chaos has more plot development than any before. In this, there’s a lot of interesting character development, especially for a lot of the Aes Sedai we’ve known a while. The politics of Salidar and the desire to heal the White Tower cause drastic actions from some, and power changes hands, with those passing it often following other agendas. This book explores Aes Sedai custom on a deeper level, and the dynamics of power in all realms of the story become increasingly tense. It’s the first book where Rand no longer has his guide in the ways of the world, so his life and his actions take on a whole new atmosphere. Its length makes it seem a little overwhelming, but it’s worth it. - @freckleface675 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
