Meg's doctor told her the hallucinations were a result of the accident, that they would stop once she got some peace and quiet. This is a spine-tingling ghost story...but I don't really know why. By modern standards, the plot is tame. Still, when I read the book last night every creak and noise became suspect. This is well-written and has just the right amount of horror.
