Lisa is the last person some would expect to find in a highway-side 'sports bar with curves, ' but as general manager at Double Whammies, she has come to love the place and its customers. An incurable den mother, she nurtures and protects her girls fiercely, but over the course of one trying day, her optimism is battered from every direction. Double Whammies sells a big, weird American fantasy, but what happens when reality pokes a bunch of holes in it?

Eject after 10 mins..... not good, no real story line other than a waitress doing some illegal money collection at her boss restaurant that got her fired. No real story plot to follow to keep me interested.

I seen this on the catalog and passed but then saw it as a preview for the amateur film makers and looked interesting, I made it to an hour and quit. I like Regina Hall but could not stay interested... hope others like it.

not sure what this was about, as a story is lacking, and the ending seems like it is halfway though an other. strange way to waste money

I cannot believe those blurbs from Variety and Wall Street Journal --- are they all stoners there? And on somebody's payroll in Follywood?
Godawful is the only description --- these and similar crapfests from America and Europe I've viewed occasionally these past years must indeed be some sort of tax shelter and/or money laundering scheme - - no sane person would conceivably produce such drivel!

This one was barely worth the watch. It started slowly then slowed down from there and had no ending.

To me this is not a simple movie but multi-dimentional. Remember the phrase: "If you want something done quickly, give it to a busy person"? This isn't just about a woman who has too much on her plate. It's about an exhausted woman who is too familiar with skimming by without enough rest or help along the way. This movie is a metaphor for women who carry unusual burdens and get used to it, to their detriment. My empathy for the main character became engaged early on. The acting is spot on. Whoever casted this film deserves lots of credit. And to those who see this as T&A film, you missed the point! 4 stars, solid.

In general I am a supporter of low-budget, independent cinema. But with this one I simply could not get myself into the story. I tried, but had to gave up halfway as it totally failed to engage me.

There are certain movies that don't seem too bad unless you start thinking about them. This is one of them. If you like the idea of making a Hollywood semi feel-good movie about a scuzzy industry then this one is for you. If you demand a certain type of realism found in the quasi-indie movies of Sean Baker (Florida Project, Starlet) you will be very disappointed. At least I was.

I was initially reluctant to see this movie because it was directed by mumblecore prince Andrew Bujalski, and I've disliked everything I've seen by him ("Computer Chess," "Mutual Appreciation," "Funny Ha Ha"). But it's ended up on a bunch of best of the year lists and Regina Hall's performance has gotten a lot of praise. I was pleasantly surprised. Hall is tender and touching as the beleaguered manager of a Hooters-like bar called Double Whammies. The film unfolds over the course of one particularly bad day. Bujalski's direction is subtle and thoughtful and he rightly lets his performers, who also include Haley Lu Richardson, rapper Junglepussy, and James LeGros as the callow manager, run the show. Without being preachy or political, it touches on a number of current issues like sexism, class, and crappy jobs. It's a small film but one of my favorites of the year.

Regina Hall did an amazing job in this movie. Too bad she wasn't recognized for her work.
