Sophie isn’t foolish or naïve. But she’s going through rough times that are forcing her to grow up faster than she’d like.

The poetry here is that of an adolescent girl. But there’s nothing too silly about it. True, when Sophie does get fixated on a boy, her poetry revolves around him with the sort of nail-biting intensity you might expect. But Sophie has a good head on her shoulders, one that forces her to step back every now and again and look carefully at the objects of her affections.

The free-form poetry, lacking in rhyme for the most part, takes us on a journey through Sophie’s changing values, lifestyle and outlook. She understands that love is important, that there are all sorts of different kinds and that sorting them out is…complicated. When she finally finds a guy who understands her and shares her interest, you can’t help but cheer. Sophie’s growing up and her tastes reflect that. Not bad.

Awesome book! Quick and interesting with verses, and Sophie's quick-changing crush/love and family drama is easy to relate for most teenage girls
