Cyrano de Bergerac is a 17th century French soldier-poet and swordsman who loves his cousin Roxane, but believes she will never love him because of his enormous nose. He courts and wins her, not for himself, but for his inexperienced and prosaic friend, Christian, who dies in battle. Years later, as Cyrano himself is dying, he confesses his love to Roxane, who suddenly realizes that it was Cyrano's words she had heard from Christian, and Cyrano that she had always loved.

Great movie, but this Alphavideo transfer to DVD is unwatchable. Audio out of synch, many scenes overly contrasty or too dark. The library should replace this with one of the better ones out there.
Classic 1950 b&w romantic historical film - and fun watch.
Jose Ferrer became the first Hispanic to earn an Academy Award for his performance in "Cyrano De Bergerac". This is a touching movie and although done later by others, this is the movie that best captures the character of Cyrano De Bergerac. This is a classic play and movie and one should really try not to miss it. It one of the most outstanding American Films ever produced!
