Then? It seems far out for James Bond type took Margaret Thatcher's advice to found a private military company on counter-terrorism. Ditto cliched out of control CIA operation.
Now? Plot sound like what cynical nutjob conspiracy theorist would think on job security in Homeland security just like War on Drugs with Sam the dog & Ralph the wolf in 9 to 5 jobs.
Still, veteran author wrote a great grim spy pre-Tom Clancy novel or that protagonist's young wife grows up & learn about the spy trade.
