Buried Onions is a very well written book, it is about a boy named Eddie, Eddie is Mexican, nineteen years old, he lives in Fresno, California, and he is a drop out student from college. Eddie is always trying to be careful with who he hangs with and he tries to stay out of trouble, since he lives in a very bad and dangerous part of Fresno Eddie has lost his Dad, cousins, and his best friend Jesús due to the dangers on the streets. Now Eddie is trying to find a way to survive and get money so he can get out of Fresno alive before he ends up like his best friend Jesús, a Buried Onion.
This book is amazing, I love it. Buried Onions has a lot of sad moments there was a scene in the book when Eddie ha to take his aunt’s dog Queenie to the vet to be put down since she was getting old and she had cancer, It was sad because Queenie was a great dog. This is the first time I read a book by Gary Soto and he amazed me. I have read a lot of books with is type of theme and I really enjoyed them all. Honestly I felt like this one was probably my favorite.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good book, it is very honest and it opens your eyes to see whos good and whos bad. A good audience would be someone who likes books about realizing the truth in people, people who likes a sad book, and a book about gangsters. The age group that may like this book is probably teens or older.
