3 hours and 20 minutes. A classic movie for the ages. Beautiful countryside. The story is set during the Russian Revolution. In places it is stark, brutal, cold and unforgiving. Yet others, where Zhivago spends time with Tonya or…

A gorgeously shot film and moving story. Great bonus material, this is the 3-disc Anniversary Edition. Five Academy Awards and five Golden Globes in 1966.

Among the canon of "classic films," I find Doctor Zhivago has its space the most contested. It definitely is not Lean's best work-- it does meander and the central love story is fatally undernourished. And yet, certain scenes stay with…

A film I have seen several times plus the remakes. This original is the grandest, partly because of the cast. Too bad no more special screenings on large screen theaters anymore. I still recall feeling goosebumps watching the wintry scenes…

IN THE FIRST THIRTY minutes of this three-hour movie, three apparently unconnected stories start to unfold. Audiences today are not prepared for this level of complexity. Omar Sharif stars as the title character, a young doctor and poet,…

I saw this movie the first time in the summer of 1965 I had just graduated from College. I went with another couple and the guy was a history major and helped me understand what was taking place. I did not find it that good a movie but…

Wonderful telling of personal stories of people, portrayed by top-notch actors, who just want to live despite a totalitarian revolution against an authoritarian government taking place in the background.

GREAT 1965 David Lean production of compelling romantic tale set in changing Russian times. Fine acting by talented actors, and VERY fine cinematography, music, etc.

Read the book and watched this film many times - always great, always epic and yes, always tragic. A-must-watch classic.

Exchange "carriage" for "troika" and you are left with Russia's unofficial version of "Gone With the Wind"! Incorporates main book parts.

It is worth watching the background disc first to hear the actors being interviewed about their roles. Omar Sharif is such a professional.

looking beyond adultery being celebrated as an 'epic' grand passion, this movie was at times compelling, and was obviously created for the viewer to savor the blend of lush scenery, and emotional performances.

Note Theres Several Versions in Circulation. the Original 1965 Version is the only one worth seeing as it won several Academy Awards. This Review is about that one. This film is considered one of the Top Movies of All Time as a…

Wow. Huge scale, and gorgeous scenery, but a pretty simple love story. Cool to see Alex Guinness and Omar Sharif at that age. Would benefit from some complexity in the score, though.

The website is the actual problem. The ratings for the excellent original movie are combined with the ratings for the lousy miniseries, producing confusion. I hope the website gets fixed!

A great piece of film-making, and spectacular scenery, but I've got to admit that the story has always left me cold. "Grand passion excuses everything" is not an idea that flies well.

Beyond overlong. Boring. Any interest I had in watching this movie (and I did watch it to the end) was the history of the Bolshevik revolution, which I was unfamiliar with and perked my interest. I don't see how this made so many "best…
